The University of Edinburgh has enjoyed another outstanding year of sporting success, with students delivering exceptional performances across the national university sport landscape. From league triumphs, to championship medals, the season has been powerful showcase of talent, determination and team spirit.

Last night, 126 students were celebrated for their sports volunteering and performances, awarding 52 Colours, 38 Half Blues and 36 Blues. Additionally, seven named awards were presented, recognising outstanding coaches, officials and athletes.

The Scottish Varsity Match, one of the oldest rugby rivalries in the world, will return to Edinburgh on Friday 18 September 2026, as the University of Edinburgh RFC take on the University of St Andrews RFC at Hive Stadium.

The InspirED project will see University student-athletes visit local schools to share their journeys, promote healthy lifestyles, and inspire young people to believe in their potential.

Finding time, and confidence, to start running can feel daunting, especially if you don’t see yourself as “sporty”. University of Edinburgh Sport Learn to Run programme is designed to change that, offering a supportive, welcoming pathway into running for staff and students across the University.

An independent report into the University of Edinburgh’s sport and wellbeing activities has shown that for every £1 invested, £5.69 was generated in economic impact and social value.
