Naomi Jones

2015 Inductee

Naomi only took up archery when she came to the University as an undergraduate but, supported by the University’s Individual Performance Programme, she has gone on to be ranked number one indoor archer in the world, to have won and be placed at more World Cup legs than any other British archer in the history of the sport, and to hold five UK senior records. She is an outstanding example of an athlete who - despite a late start – has achieved top-flight sporting success through aptitude, commitment and the right performance environment.

Achieving the rare accolade of meeting the Sports Hall of Fame standards while still a student, she won her Blue in 2009/10, was awarded the Eva Bailey Trophy for best female athlete in both 2012 and 2013, and was nominated as the BUCS Sportswoman of the Year in 2013.

A three-time winner of the BUCS championship, she has been the Scottish Open champion six times, the British Open champion three times, and in 2014 was the GB national series champion.

While representing Great Britain, she won the individual European silver medal in 2013 and was bronze medallist in the World Cup Final in 2012. Team medals have included European bronze in 2013 and World bronze in 2012.

Professionally, she was the IFAA European champion in 2012 and the World Cup stage winner in Nimes 2013 and Marrakech 2014. Other accolades include winning the face2face tournament in 2012, taking the silver medal at the same tournament in 2011, and winning the bronze medal at the World Cup stage at Marrakech 2013.

By winning both the professional tournaments – at Nimes and Amsterdam – in the same year, she became the first female compound archer in the world to achieve that feat.
