Ian Edmond

2010 Inductee

A multiple national record holder,  breaststroker Ian Edmond – who took two years out of his medical degree to concentrate on swimming - held two Commonwealth records, one European record, two British records, and eight Scottish records in the course of his career.

A product and stalwart of the all conquering City of Edinburgh Swim programme, Ian established himself as one of the world’s top breaststrokers, breaking in 2001 David Wilkie’s 25-year-old Scottish 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke records.

Already a silver medallist in the 200-metres breaststroke at the 2001 European Championships, he went on to become European 200-metres breaststroke champion in 2003, taking gold at the European Short Course Championships in Dublin. In the same year, he powered to the silver medal for the same event at the World Championships in Barcelona – an achievement which won him a place in the British Olympic team for the 2004 Olympics.

Ian has also represented Scotland at two Commonwealth Games, Kuala Lumpar 1998 and Manchester 2002, making the final on both occasions.
