Seonaid McIntosh

Seonaid McIntosh is a World and European Champion and Britain’s most successful ever rifle female shooter.

Daughter of Sport Hall of Fame Inductees, Shirley (2011) and Donald McIntosh (2016), Seonaid was supported by the University’s Performance Sport Programme during her Post-graduate studies (Postgraduate Diploma Performance Psychology, 2022).

She is the joint World Record Holder in the 300m Rifle Prone event, and has enjoyed glittering success at European, Commonwealth Championship, Commonwealth Game and World Championship level.

Seonaid started competing in earnest in 2012 with success following soon after. At the 2015 10m European Championships, she become the first British Junior in 35 years to secure a medal with a spectacular silver, setting a new British under-21 record.

In 2017 she won an Individual and Team gold medal at the European Championships, and silver in the 50m Rifle Prone and gold in the 50m Rifle 3-position events at the Commonwealth Championships. She continued her phenomenal success into 2018 when she secured two bronze medals at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (50m Rifle Prone and 50m Rifle 3-positions) as well as a gold medal (50m Rifle Prone) and bronze medal (50m Rifle Prone Women’s Team) at the World Championships in Changwon.

At the 2019 World Cup, she won silver in the 3x40m Rifle in the Munich leg, silver in the 10 Air Rifle and gold in the 3x40 Rifle events in Rio de Janerio. This feat made her the first British Women to win a World Cup Gold Medal. The result also secured her first place in the ISSF World Rankings for the Three Position Rifle (September 2019) making her the first British Women to be ranked World #1. Later that year she won gold in 50m Rifle 3-Positions at the World Cup Final in held in Putian, China.

Seonaid also competed and was the GB flag bearer at the 2019 World University Games.

In 2020 Seonaid was selected to represent Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics and at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games Seonaid was part of Team Scotland’s Achieve mentoring programme, sharing on her experiences and knowledge to other Scottish athletes.

In February 2023 Seonaid secured her 4th World Cup Medal, with a gold medal in Air Rifle event setting a new Scottish and British record during qualification.

Seonaid is a shining example of success at the very highest level and continues to help cement the McIntosh’s place as one of Scotland’s foremost sporting families.
