About the Eric Liddell 100 Campaign

The Eric Liddell 100 is a programme of events and activities designed to recognise and celebrate the life, sporting, and community service achievements of one of Scotland’s most iconic figures – Eric Liddell. The programme has been planned around the centenary of his historic success at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris.

We are delighted to have been invited to partner with Melrose Sevens in 2024 as part of The Eric Liddell 100 and The University of Edinburgh. Whilst predominately remembered for his achievements on the athletics track, Eric Liddell was a talented rugby player, winning seven caps for Scotland before he retired from the sport to focus on his running.

John MacMillan
CEO ELC100

The initiative is being led by The Eric Liddell Community 100 to bring his achievements to life for everyone, and inspire new generations to make a positive impact on their community, their society and their world with the input and support of a wide range of partners, including Melrose Sevens and The University of Edinburgh.

About Melrose Sevens

Melrose Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Melrose Rugby Club, at The Greenyards in Melrose. It is the oldest rugby sevens competition in the world dating back to 1883.
