National Volunteers’ Week: Celebrate and Inspire

National Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the incredible contributions made by volunteers. This year, from Saturday 1st June to Friday 7th June, marks the 40th Volunteers' Week, and is an opportunity to recognise the amazing volunteers in the Sport at Edinburgh community.

Edinburgh University Sports Union are profoundly grateful to our volunteers— we have over 800 committee members, 213 volunteer coaches, 9 Sports Union Exec volunteers and 4 students taking part in the Volunteer Zambia project. Your dedication and contributions are the foundation of our success, and we simply could not achieve what we do without you.

Meet Our Volunteers

Ava Lehane

What has volunteering meant to you?

It's meant everything to me. Coming to university, I wasn't really a sporty girl. Volunteering allowed me to find my feet in a new city and combine my increasing love for sport with my love of finances and my passion to increase opportunities for all in sport.

Hannah Gray

What impact has volunteering had on your employability?

Volunteering has been fantastic for employability. It added something different for my CV alongside uni and part-time jobs and gave me loads of experiences to talk about in interviews! The organisational and leadership experience with the Snowsports Club has set me up for the working world and this experience definitely helped me get the job I am starting in September!

Angus MacLeod

Why would you recommend volunteering to your fellow students?

You'll never regret it. Volunteer 'work' doesn't feel like work when you're helping your friends to enjoy the sport that you all love, you become part of such a special community and the experiences and success cannot be matched.

Tom Busby

Why would you recommend volunteering to your fellow students?

Volunteering has shaped my time at uni in an entirely different way than I expected. I cannot recommend it enough to people who want to meet people, experience new things and make the most of the University of Edinburgh experience

Get Involved!

Volunteering in sport holds immense value for students, offering a wide range of benefits that extend beyond the field or court. Engaging in volunteer opportunities within the sports community not only enriches a student's academic experience but also plays a pivotal role in personal and professional development.

Over 1000 students currently volunteer within Sports Union clubs and the Intramural programme, taking on a range of roles including organising events, managing logistics, coaching & officiating.

There are countless ways to get involved with volunteering at Sport at Edinburgh. Whether you’re passionate about coaching, event organisation, or club management, there’s a place for you. While volunteering at Edinburgh we will ensure you have the right training to undertake your role and can support you in your professional development.
