University Rowers Reign at the BUCS Rowing Regatta

It was a sensational weekend for Edinburgh University Boat Club at the 2022 BUCS Regatta as they became Victor Ludorum Champions for the first time.

Taking place at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham the BUCS Regatta is one of the most anticipated events of the rowing season and the University was well represented, with nearly 80 entries across 42 events.

There was sensational performances from athletes across the club with multiple gold, silver and bronze medals across a huge array of events. The club also become the first ever to win both the beginners men’s and beginners women’s doubles beating competition from over 40 other entries in each event.

The 574 points, and first place, from the men’s racing and 710 points, and second place, in the women’s events, meant the club finished with a massive combined total of 1,103 points, well ahead of rivals University of Cambridge (756 points) and Queen’s University Belfast (652 points).

Securing the Victor Ludorum Championship, for the first time, is testament to the talent, drive and determination of the athletes and the quality of the coaching within the programme. Led by Head of Performance Rowing Colin Williamson and coaches John Higson, Lewis McCue and Mike Hughes, EUBC enables rowers of all abilities, from novice to Under 23 and beyond, to realise their potential on the national and international stage.

Edinburgh University Boat Club is one of just six university High Performance Programmes recognised by British Rowing. The programme is also supported by the National Lottery and receives funding from Scottish Rowing.
