Edinburgh students selected for the European University Games

Nine students from the University of Edinburgh have been selected as part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland delegation for the European University Games 2022.

The EUSA Games governed by the European University Sports Association (EUSA) represents the largest European multi-sport student event. British representatives at the games are confirmed  by the National University Sports Association (NUSA) for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,  BUCS.

The delegation comprised of 251 athletes across 51 universities in 13 sporting disciplines is the largest ever British delegation to attend a European Games.

The competition will be hosted in Lodz, the third-biggest city in Poland between the 17 July 2022 to 31 July 2022. The event is set to be the biggest university sporting event organised in Poland since the Winter Universiade in 2001.

I am very excited to be travelling to Poland for the European University Games! It’s a privilege to be representing The University of Edinburgh at the biggest multi-sport event in Europe for university sport. Hoping to go out with the rest of the team and put in a performance that my coaches and support team back in Edinburgh can be proud of.

Head of Sport at the University of Edinburgh, Ross Simpson said:

The Sport team here at The University of Edinburgh are delighted to see so many athletes selected for the European University Championships. Credit to those selected, who have performed at the highest level this year, and we wish them all the best out in Poland this summer.

As a biannual event, the Hungarian cities of Debrecen and Miskolc will host the next European Universities Games in 2024. Salerno in Italy will host the 2026 European Universities Games.
