The University of Edinburgh Intramural programme reached new records this year, with 1911 members across 202 teams - competing across 10 different sports and 26 leagues. Intramural Programme Recap 2024–25: A Record-Breaking YearAs we wrap up the year, the Intramural programme has once again seen continued growth in the 2024/25 season. This year also marked a milestone, as we surpassed 200 teams for the first time ever, with 202 teams competing across 10 different sports and 26 leagues. Our community also hit a new high with a record-breaking 1911 memberships.A major addition to this year’s programme was the introduction of a new sport, Tennis, which brought a new weekly league to Saturdays at the Meadows. At peak times, the programme ran over 90 weekly fixtures across the 10 sports, a true testament to the scale and popularity of IM sport at UoE.School representation remained strong, with 65 teams participating from 19 out of the university’s 21 academic schools. Excitingly, we also saw a large increase in involvement from society teams. With 47 societies entering teams this year (up from 15 the year before), the growth in community engagement was fantastic to see. All Stars: A Day to RememberThe annual All Stars event once again delivered on drama and sporting excellence. Held on the 19th of March, the event brought together the top IM players to take on their respective sports clubs in an exciting set of matchups across Pleasance, Peffermill, St Leonards, and the Meadows. The Basketball game was a particular highlight, where the IM team overcame a 20-point halftime deficit to win 57-51 in a thrilling comeback. In Rugby, the club side edged a nail-biter 34-33 in overtime, with the IM team narrowly missing an overtime drop goal that would have been their own Jonny Wilkinson 2003 moment. All fixtures were played in fantastic spirit, showcasing both competitiveness and mutual respect between the IM and club communities. The club teams ultimately came out on top, winning 6-4 overall. Celebrating the IM CommunityThis year, we also introduced team spotlights, a new initiative to highlight exceptional achievements beyond the pitch. From standout performances to inspiring charity and community work, these features allowed us to showcase what makes our IM teams truly special. Head over to our Instagram to see which teams were in the spotlight! As we reflect on another memorable year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the student volunteers and staff whose commitment and enthusiasm have been instrumental in delivering an inclusive, welcoming, and ever-growing Intramural programme. Their work ensures that sport at UoE continues to thrive, on and off the field.
