2014 Inductee Swimmer Alan McClatchey competed at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, where he won a bronze medal as part of the 4 x 200m freestyle relay team. He also competed with distinction in the 400m freestyle and the 200m butterfly. That same year he broke the British records for the 400m freestyle, the 200m butterfly, and the 400m individual medley, the last of these while representing Great Britain at the Europa Cup in Italy. His first major championship was in 1974, when he swam for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. The following year, as part of the British 4 x 200m freestyle relay team, he won a silver medal at the World Championships in Cali, Colombia. He went on to swim at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton in 1978 and the World Student Games in Mexico in 1979.
