Student athletes from The University of Edinburgh enjoyed sensational success at the British Swimming Championships, held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre between 5 - 10 April 2022. There was success across team, with standout performance from Msc Sport Policy Management and International Development student Kara Hanlon and Accounts and Finance Student Scott Gibson. Image As well as securing third in the 200m and 50m breaststroke finals, Kara secured British Champion status in the 100m breaststroke, winning in a Scottish Record time. Her performances in the 100m and 50m events were also within Commonwealth Games consideration times, putting her in contention for a place in Team Scotland for Birmingham 2022. Image Scott Gibson broke the Scottish record time in his British Championship winning 50m backstroke performance where he also secured a Commonwealth Games consideration time. Other notable performances included incoming student Archie Goodburn, who has joined the swim programme ahead of transferring to the University in September, achieving Commonwealth Games consideration times in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and Accounting and Business Alumna Tain Bruce achieving a Commonwealth Games consideration time in the 4 x 100m Freestyle. The strength of the University swim programme, led by Head of Swimming Chris Jones and was demonstrated, not only by the headline success of athletes like Kara and Scott but also with final appearances from athletes in all groups and performances from first year athletes like Katie Goodburn and Tom Carswell.
