2008 Inductee Science graduate Andy Irvine is widely accepted as one of Scotland’s greatest ever Rugby players, if not the greatest. He won 51 international caps for Scotland and excelled in three British and Irish Lions tours going to South Africa twice and New Zealand once. He also played 16 times for the invitation side, the Barbarians. Andy’s trademark was his attacking flair and incisive running at great pace, while his place kicking was also exceptional. He brought excitement and style to the international Rugby scene, and was a key player for Scotland and the Lions in many notable matches. In the course of his distinguished international career between 1972 and 1982, Andy captained Scotland on 15 occasions and scored 261 points. Andy is also a member of the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame, and the International Rugby Hall of Fame.If that’s not enough, he was awarded an MBE for services to rugby in 2002, and also served as the President of the Scottish Rugby Union from 2005 to 2007.
