2012 Inductee Alistair McGregor represented Edinburgh University’s Men’s Hockey Club from 1999 to 2001 and went on to become recognised as one of the world’s greatest specialist hockey goalkeepers. In an outstanding career for club and country, he quickly established himself as a pioneer in the art of hockey goalkeeping, setting new standards of excellence through his technical proficiency, athleticism, and competitive spirit. He won 133 international caps - 104 for Scotland (outdoor) and 29 for Great Britain (outdoor). At the European Championship in 2005, he was named as one of the outstanding players of the tournament. He represented Scotland at two Commonwealth Games - in Melbourne in 2006 and in Delhi in 2010 - and in 2008 he captained the Great Britain team which finished fifth at the Beijing Olympics. He is the only Scot and the only goalkeeper to have captained the Great Britain hockey team. The year 2008 was an extraordinary one for Alistair. As well as captaining Team GB, he was voted Great Britain player of the year, selected in the FIH World All-Stars team of the year, and was the hockey writers’ player of the year.
