Stephen Dick

2015 Inductee

Having competed for Scotland at every age level, hockey player Stephen made his senior debut for his country in 2004 and went on to win 120 international caps for Scotland and 29 for Great Britain between then and 2011. Widely regarded as one of the most gifted Scottish hockey players in a generation, he scored more than 25 goals (outdoors) during his international career. He also excelled in both the indoor and outdoor versions of the game.

In 2008, he represented Great Britain at the Beijing Olympics, where the team finished fifth. He also represented Scotland at two Commonwealth Games – at Melbourne in 2006 and at Delhi in 2010.

He also played for Scotland at both the EuroHockey Nations Championships, Divisions A and B.

He achieved the rare accolade of meeting the Sports Hall of Fame standards while still a student. In 2008/09, he was awarded the Vancouver Quaich for the best athletic performance by a male student and in 2009 he won the Scottish Universities Sport’s Athlete of the Year. Supported by the University’s Individual Performance Programme, he pioneered flexible study arrangements as he pursued his successful Olympic ambitions.

His commitment to the University was renewed in 2012 when he again became involved with the men’s hockey team and has played a key role in its current success.
