Over 8,300 students were welcomed to the 2023 Edinburgh University Sports Union Sports Fair. The event, held on Monday 11th September in the Gem at Bristo Square, kicked off the University's welcome to new and returning students in style. One of the highlights of Semester, the fair showcases the the very best of the Sports Union, sport clubs and Sport & Exercise. Image All 70 sports clubs were represented, from Handball to Hillwalking and Sailing to Shinty. Sports club committee members brought fantastic energy and showed new and returning students how brilliant Sport at Edinburgh is, showcasing their trips, training, competitions and community. The fair also promotes all the other ways to be active and get involved in sport whilst at Edinburgh with representation for intramural sport, the International Sport Club, gym memberships, the Active Lives programme and other Sport & Exercise services and the Volunteer Zambia project. Image Following the Sports Fair, clubs are hosting over 300 welcome week events for students, taster sessions, trials and social events. These events are open to everybody and are designed to encourage students to get involved and try something new. Clubs are being encouraged to continue the trend of offering alcohol-free alternatives and eradicating any form of behaviour that makes others feel unwelcome as part of the #FullTimeonInitiations campaign.
