Caitlin McClatchey

Caitlin McClatchey is among Scotland’s greatest swimmers, with a glittering international career lasting over 10 years, including representation at all the major Games.

At the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne (2006), she won gold medals in both the 200m and 400m freestyle, and competed at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi (2010) and Glasgow (2014). She represented Great Britain at three Olympic Games: Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012, making finals in all of them.

At the World Long Course Championships in 2005, she won bronze in the 400m freestyle, and at the same championships in 2009 she took bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

The 2008 World Short Course Championships saw Caitlin win silver in the 4x200m freestyle relay, bronze in the 200m freestyle, and bronze in the 4x100m freestyle relay in a European record time which still stands.

She won bronze in the 400m freestyle at the 2006 European Long Course Championships and went on to win silver at the 2008 European Long Course Championships in the 200m freestyle.

At the 2013 World Universiade Games, she represented Great Britain taking bronze medals in both the 200m and 400m freestyle events.

Caitlin has been British record holder in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, as well as the 4x200m freestyle relay.

Caitlin has the rare achievement of holding all three of the University’s top sporting accolades. She won the Eva Bailey Trophy for Best Female Athlete of 2013/14, claimed the Cameron Blue of the Year in 2014/15, and now joins the Sports Hall of Fame.
