We are delighted to announce the appointment of Eilidh Doyle, Scotland’s most decorated athlete, as Global Ambassador of Sport for the University of Edinburgh. Eilidh, who retired in 2021, is a world-renowned athlete and will work closely with the performance sport team on recruitment as well as mentoring elite athletes at the University as they progress through the levels of high performance sport. The University hall of famer will also work closely with our Development and Alumni team to help shape future scholarships as we look to help develop the upcoming talent from Scotland and wider afield.Director of Sport and Active Health, Mark Munro, is delighted with the news,“Eilidh is one of the most recognisable athletes in the UK and beyond and we are delighted to have her work with us on bringing in the next generation of talent where she can help pass on her years of experience, not only of high performance sport, but also what life is like at the University of Edinburgh having graduated herself back in 2008.”Head of Performance, David Hughes is looking forward to working with Eilidh, “To add Eilidh to the team is fantastic news for staff and athletes alike. We can all learn from Eilidh’s experiences from her amazing career, from her days as a student and balancing training all the way through to being poster girl of Glasgow 2014 and competing at London 2012.”Eilidh can’t wait to get started, “I have great memories of being a student at the University and they gave me so much support back in the day and helped me on my journey as an athlete so to be able to come back and help with recruitment and pass on some of my experiences to the athletes will be a joy. The University has amazing people and facilities so if I can help play a small part in progressing someone’s career then it will have been worth it.” This article was published on 2025-01-20
