Chloe MacLean

2019 Inductee

Chloe is one of Scotland’s most inspiring karate practitioners, with success at every stage of her career. She is a role model for many people, having achieved huge acclaim in both in academia and top-level sport.

Wth three University degrees and multiple wins at Commonwealth and European levels, she has racked up two Senior Commonwealth Championship titles and four Senior European ‘Wado’ Championship wins, as well as being declared British Champion an extraordinary nine times.

Chloe also achieved medal success at the World Senior ‘Wado’Championships, European University Karate Championships and the Under-21 World Karate Championships. She has been untouchable at British Universities (BUCS) level, winning a raft of individual and team titles for the University.

Participating in our Individual Performance Programme for seven years, Chloe was awarded the University’s Eva Bailey Cup for the Female Athlete of the Year in 2011. This recognised her competitive successes, but also her loyal and long-serving contribution to the EU Karate Club. She was awarded her University Blue in 2012, along with the prestigious Cameron Blue of the Year.

Chloe has achieved a similarly high level of success in her studies, securing a First in her undergraduate degree, before going on to complete a Masters and PhD in Sociology, focussing on gender dynamics in karate. Chloe was recognised as Young Researcher of the Year by the European Association for the Sociology of Sport and has gone on to establish a successful career in academia.
