Sir Chris Hoy Gives Update on Diagnosis

University of Edinburgh Principal, Peter Mathieson has shared words of support following Six-time Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy's terminal cancer diagnosis.

Peter Mathieson, the University of Edinburgh Principal, responded to the news of Sir Chris Hoy's terminal cancer diagnosis with heartfelt words:

“Alumnus Sir Chris Hoy, his wife Sarra and the wider family, are very much in our thoughts following yesterday’s announcement. Sir Chris is one of the greatest sportspersons this country has produced. His hard work, dedication and commitment to being the best is an inspiration to us all, as is his positivity and courage in the face of his terminal diagnosis. We extend our deepest sympathies to him and his family during this difficult time.” 

Sir Chris, a six-time Olympic champion and one of Scotland's greatest athletes, has made an immense impact both in the world of sports and beyond. His achievements have inspired many, and his legacy will remain a proud part of the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated with a BSc in Applied Sports Science in 1999 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.

The announcement has come as a deep shock to the sporting world and all those who have followed Sir Chris's remarkable journey.
