The University of Edinburgh had extraordinary success at the Scottish National Open Swimming Championships last weekend. Ciara Schlosshan at the Scottish National Open The weekend was an incredible display of talent from across the UK with Edinburgh securing the top club spot with an impressive 1064 points. 36 athletes took to the pool claiming 39 medals. Ciara Schlosshan had a stand out performance, taking home national titles with 3 golds in the Butterfly events and became the national champion in the 100m Freestyle. It was Ciara’s 100m Butterfly race which saw her secure a new personal best of 58.35 - under next year’s Commonwealth Games standard time in the event. Kara Hanlon dominated in the breaststroke discipline, claiming the national champion title in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke. Performance programme teammate, Anna Morgan followed suit with an impressive performance, claiming 3 silvers in the same discipline. Fellow swimmer Hannah Bowley rounded out the podium in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke with a great bronze medal performance. Kara Hanlon swimming at the Scottish National Open Archie Goodburn returned with national champion performances in both the 100m and 50m breaststroke, retaining his 50m title for the third year in a row, reaffirming his position among the top swimmers in Scotland. Backstroke specialist Scott Gibson took gold in the 50m backstroke and added a silver medal in the 100m event, while Anna Green secured double silver in the women’s 100m and 200m backstroke. Andrew Brodie and Jordan McPhail also impressed, with Brodie taking silver in the 200m back and McPhail claiming national champion honours in the same event. In freestyle events, Drew McKenzie sprinted to victory in the 50m freestyle, while Finlay Clubb took the national title in the 200m freestyle and added a silver in the 100m. Luke Hornsey showed endurance class by winning both the 800m and 1500m freestyle titles, with teammate Arthur Logan securing silver in both events. In relay action, Edinburgh shone brightly taking national champion status in the 4x50m Mixed IM, 4x100m Mixed Freestyle, 4x50m Mixed Freestyle, and 4x100m Mixed IM. The 4x100m Mixed Freestyle and Mixed IM relays also set new National Club Records.
