Four University of Edinburgh Athletes to Compete at EUSA Games 2024

Four talented students from the University of Edinburgh have been selected to participate in Karate and Taekwondo, showcasing their skills on an international stage.

The European Universities Games, a multi-sport event, for 2024 hosted in Debrecen-Miskolc, Hungary, from July 12th to 24th. Marking the 7th edition of these games, the event is expected to feature over 4500 athletes competing across 17 different sports. 

Four talented students from the University of Edinburgh have been selected to participate in Karate and Taekwondo, showcasing their skills on an international stage. 

Meet the Athletes

Adam Hamill - Karate

Weight Category: -60kg 

Course: Applied Sports Science 

Year of Study: 1st year 

Experience: Competing for 11 years 

Achievements: Scottish, British & Commonwealth gold medallist, WKF medallist

Holly Buchanan - Karate 

Weight Category: Female -68kg 

Course: MA Physical Education 

Year of Study: 3rd year 

Experience: Competing for 9 years 

Achievements: British International Open Champion, European Wado Kai Champion, 2024 BUCS Champion, represented the Scotland national team 4 times

Antione Pinardin - Karate 

Weight Category: Male +84kg 

Course: Ph.D in Pure Mathematics 

Experience: Competing for 13 years 

Achievements: Senior British Champion, 4x BUCS Champion, 4x French Universities Champion, Bronze medal at the Senior French Championships

Emily Sutherland - Taekwondo 

Weight Category: Female -73kg 

Course: MA Physical Education 

Year of Study: 4th year 

Experience: Competing internationally for 1.5 years, started Taekwondo at age 7 

Achievements: Silver medalist at the 5th Asian Open Taekwondo Championships 2023 in Islamabad, Pakistan
