Celebrating Empowerment and Engagement at the University of Edinburgh Sport’s Girls’ Night In

The University of Edinburgh Sport recently hosted the vibrant and highly successful Sport Girls’ Night In event, attracting over 300 women and girls to engage in a memorable evening of fun, fitness, and empowerment. This fully subscribed event showcased the university's commitment to promoting inclusivity and fostering a love for sport among women.

The event, at the Pleasance Gym, featured a diverse range of activities designed to inspire participants to explore new sporting interests. Over 48% of attendees were not currently engaged in sport at the University, making the turnout particularly remarkable.

Feedback from over 50 participants highlighted the overwhelmingly positive impact of the event. Attendees arrived with mixed emotions, including excitement and anxiety. However, they left feeling predominantly happy (64%), excited, and relaxed, underscoring the event’s success in creating a supportive and enjoyable environment. Many participants expressed newfound confidence to return to sports or try new activities, suggesting the potential for significant long-term behaviour change

One participant captured the evening's spirit, saying,

The staff were amazing! I tried things I had never done before and they helped me with my form so now I feel confident to do them myself. The music was great and it was such a safe atmosphere. Loved it!
