2026 Inductee Chief Medical Officer for Ryder Cup Europe and DP World Tour medical lead Internationally respected leader in sport and exercise medicine supporting athletes at Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship level Dr Andrew Murray has made an outstanding contribution to sport through his leadership and expertise in sport and exercise medicine, supporting athletes and teams at the very highest level of international competition. He has held senior medical leadership roles across global sport, currently serving as Chief Medical Officer for Ryder Cup Europe and as Chief Medical and Scientific Officer for the DP World Tour. He has also supported Scottish Women’s Rugby as National Team Doctor and has worked across multiple Olympic and Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships, the Tour de France and The Open, demonstrating his exceptional reputation and influence in elite sport medicine. Alongside his clinical practice, Andrew is a highly respected academic, having published more than 140 scientific papers, serving as faculty on multiple International Olympic Committee programs, and completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh. He has contributed significantly to research and innovation in sport and exercise medicine. He has also demonstrated his personal excellence in sport, being a full Scottish international distance runner and winning 14 ultra-endurance events on 5 continents and the 2012 North Pole Marathon. Andrew completed 7 ultramarathons on 7 continents in 5.5 days in 2012 and once ran 4300 km from John O Groats to the Sahara Desert both to promote the value of physical activity for health and raising > £200k for charity. Andrew served as the Scottish Government’s first physical activity champion and has been awarded a Point of Light award by the UK Prime Minister. Through his global leadership, clinical excellence and academic contribution, Dr Andrew Murray has made a profound and lasting impact in sport medicine, making him a richly deserving inductee into the University of Edinburgh Sport Hall of Fame.
